fSDC Education Group
We are looking to re-establish the fSDC Education Group on a more formal footing and I would like to hear from Members and Supporters who would like to get involved. This has been prompted by a number of continuing and emerging issues and opportunities where I believe a strong voice on behalf of disabled children is needed:
- Education Bill & “disadvantage”
- Staff Skills & Training in ASL Education
- Higher & Further Education support for children with “profound and complex needs”
I represent fSDC on Scottish Government’s Advisory Group on ASL. This generated the first two and the third came from an approach by Scottish Funding Council.
The Scottish Funding Council are reviewing Extended Learning Support and wish to engage with fSDC on this important topic. Extended learning support is additional support provided to students on mainstream college courses. They are also considering the definition of profound and complex needs within the college sector. Students who have profound and complex needs are often, but not always, supported through a bespoke curriculum which is delivered to a small group of students. This type of teaching is funded at a higher level to recognise the additional resource required.
If you would like to take this opportunity to help turn good intentions into better lives or find out more about what would be involved, please contact me on firstname.lastname@example.org or 07758 914196.
