Contact thanks all those parents in Scotland and across the UK for completing the Counting the Cost survey, at a time of increased living costs, cuts to welfare and services.
From April to June 2018 we ran our online survey of families with disabled children asking them about their financial situation. 281 families across Scotland shared their experiences.
The first Counting the Costs survey was carried out in 2008, the time of the economic downturn. This is the fifth Counting the Costs survey in a decade and we have repeated questions so that we can compare the situation now to previous years in the last decade. Out research published 5th Dec 2018 shows 23% of disabled children in Scotland are going without essential therapies (up 8% since 2014) and 20% are going without specialist equipment. This is due to soaring costs and cuts to welfare and services. Families aren’t just going without the specialist things, 38% of families surveyed in Scotland said they are going without Christmas and birthday presents.
