How to use the map

Setting the Scene is designed as an online resource - a map - for users to refer to on a regular basis.  We hope to be able to add to it as more data and information becomes available and also to update it at least annually.

Read the background page first,  It would also be useful to have a look at what we tried to find out - there are reasons for the gaps!

Start with the Scotland wide page and data.  This will give you an overview of what is happening generally across the country.  And there is some information that is only available at a national level, so you will find out things here that are not available elsewhere in the resource.

Then, visit your own local authority and health board area.  There are drop down boxes to help you navigate across and between different areas.  Or you can use the map (select area from maps page) and click on different areas.

No doubt you will want a look at what neighbouring and other areas in Scotland are doing.  And to compare the figures with your own area.  You might want to open a few windows so you can compare and contrast more easily!

Finally, if you hit upon a gap in your area's entry, but know that there is information available, tell us

We'd also appreciate your feedback on using Setting the Scene, especially if you have good ideas on how to improve it!
