The fSDC liaison project was set up in 2009 to do two things. Firstly, the project acts as a conduit between the Scottish Government and significant players in the voluntary sector, generating intelligence about services on the ground and better connecting decision makers and stakeholders. Secondly, it is there to drive forward change, working with families, professionals and agencies, identifying where change is needed and how that can best be achieved.
But we quickly identified huge gaps in information about disabled children in Scotland. We needed a starting point, a map, to provide an evidence base on which to deliver change. The Scottish Government agreed and funded a research project. This map of Scotland, in the form of a unique online resource, is the result of months of trawling through existing data and statistics and trying to find out as much as possible about disabled children in Scotland, what services and support are currently provided, and what staff, funding and other resources are deployed to support them and their families.
In addition to the on-line resource, a report detailing the initial findings of the Scotland-wide study of services for disabled children 2010 has been published - 'Setting the Scene...for Scotland's Disabled Children' (pdf, 300kb). A limited amount of hard copies are available by contacting donna.tomlin@cafamily.org.uk.
