fSDC/Holyrood Conference update
Supporting Disabled Children and Young People in Scotland - Progress and next steps in planning, provision and access to services.
This one day conference was held in Edinburgh on 26 April with over 100 delegates attending. There were presentations on the latest developments in research, policy and practice affecting disabled children, young people and their families in Scotland. We also heard directly from Luke, Duncan and Johnathon, three inspiring young people from the Haggeye project – a forum for blind and partially sighted young people - about their experience of travel, transition and education.
Other speakers at the conference included:
- Robin McKendrick, Policy Team Leader, GIRFEC team, Scottish Government.
- Kirsten Stalker, Professor of Disability Studies, University of Strathclyde spoke on Identifying and understanding children’s real life experiences
There were accompanying workshops on: short breaks – ‘more than a break’; transition; education and childcare facilitated by fSDC coalition members and parents.
