3rd Lowe Syndrome Benefit Concert - A Review.
Please excuse the break in blogging...I've had, let's say, a hectic week, and needed the time to gather my thoughts and energies.
Last Saturday evening, Team Effie went over to Coatbridge to enjoy a simply wonderful evening’s entertainment hosted by the Coatbridge and Airdrie Rotary Club at the Georgian Hotel.
We had 11 superb musicians, one amazing soundman and an audience who were both appreciative and generous. Between us all, we managed to raise over $1,100 for the LSA.
Playing on the night:- Ken and Tricia Caird, John McCreadie, Jim King, Steven Clark, Claire and Gavin Livingstone, Jean Livingstone, David Stevenson, Heather McCabe and of course headlining – the one and the only – (hyperventilates a bit) Dick Gaughan. On sound, Ian Cleland.
Here's most of the gang playing together. "Geronimo's Cadillac."
So about an hour or so into the proceedings, they got me up to sing. I had prepared two songs, to be accompanied by John McCreadie and Ken Caird on the first song and Jim King on the second. But Jim had a surprise for me. When Jim got up to play, so did Steven Clark and to my huge surprise, Dick himself.
My vocal went west. See the effect that man has on people? Do you remember the clip from the film Wayne's World where the lead characters Wayne and Garth are on their knees salaaming to Alice Cooper "we are not worthy" ? Exact Same Thing. ( I love him to bits, so I do.)
However the audience were kind and applauded. Here is a wee clip of me singing. 1st song is "Make you feel my love" by Bob Dylan and the second is "Timshel" by Mumford and Sons. For all you X-Factor fans, be kind with your comments *wink*
Such a special and intimate gig. We're still in awe of everyone giving up their time and talent just for us. Being able to stand up in the community and celebrate Joff’s different life was just the best feeling ever. Raising awareness of Lowe syndrome and the Lowe Syndrome Association was a huge bonus too. Joff, being Joff, spent the night cadging crisps, checking out all the lights in the room and signing “music” which to all intent and purposes sounded like he was clapping.
Our sincere thanks to all involved, the musicians, the audience and the Coatbridge and Airdrie Rotary Club for everything. Words aren't enough.
Everyone had such a great time, we’re going to go for it again next year. I wholeheartedly invite you to join us then if you can.
