Three great charities helping us

I have been in contact with three great voluntary organisations that have helped us directly!

1. The Family Fund We applied for some financial help towards various things that would make a difference to Gaelle's life and, after an assessment visit, they awarded us several grants that enabled us to buy, amongst other things: a set of eco washing balls. They wash our laundry better than before with no detergent in them! It is completely natural and of course helps protecting sensitive skins, as opposed to normal processed washing chemicals. Besides, it is more economical in the long run too; some top of the range anti-allergy bedding and mattress covers to fight against house dust mites as Gaelle is allergic to them; some individual swimming lessons (weekly ones would make a mess of her skin; this way we can pick the best time of the year and the pattern of lessons); some money to buy good quality cotton clothing; a new anti-allergy vacuum cleaner (our old one was covered in cello tape!). How brilliant!!

2. Carers of West Lothian: as members, we have a swipe card giving us 50% discount when paying to use the local gym facilities. That's great because John's passion (and sanity keeper!) is long distance running and the card means that he will be able to use the gym at a much reduced cost during the winter months. I think that carers should make sure they look after themselves too and this charity is certainly helping us to do so in a very practical way.

3. Signpost (Livingston): members have access to a specialist library, support groups and some advantages such as some free tickets to go to Our Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh. This will be our treat in two weeks time! I can't wait to go there and spend the day as a family (we have never been before) and meet the dinosaurs!

I can't describe how grateful I am for the help we receive, especially in these difficult financial times (John was made redundant earlier in July and is now going back to Uni full time from January for two years to become a physio). The family treats are very welcome indeed and it means we don't miss out too much on the fun activities out there!
